PHYSIOTHERAPY

OUR PHYSIOTHERAPY PROCESS

Your initial session will involve a discussion with the physiotherapist about the issues that are bothering you followed by a thorough assessment of your posture, movement and alignment. The physio will then explain to you what is going on and suggest the best form of treatment from the services available.

All our physical therapists are highly trained in manual and manipulative therapy, with graduates from universities from across Canada and Australia. Most of our therapists are also trained in dry needling techniques. We pride ourselves at Envision for looking at the whole picture, always searching for the underlying cause of the condition, and not simply symptom management. Beyond sharing the same fundamentals, each therapist has their own unique training and specialization.

At Envision, we keep electronic records of your visits to allow all members of our team to coordinate you care more effectively. We will work closely with your physician, as well as the massage therapists, pilates instructors and kinesiologists located within our clinic.

Our physiotherapists offer the following services:  (please review their Bios under Our Team to see who might be the best fit for you, or call and talk to a receptionist).

Physiotherapy - Pelvic Health

The pelvis is a sensitive area with a lot of important anatomy that can become dysfunctional
and/or painful after pregnancy, trauma, cancer and life stresses. You may develop problems
with your bladder, bowel, vagina, anus, abdominals, SI joints or organ prolapses and need
someone with special training to help you control and improve your symptoms. Our team of
pelvic health physiotherapists, in conjunction with our multidisciplinary team at Envision
Physiotherapy can help assess and treat your body as a whole to help get you moving again.

For more information, go to our Pelvic Health page.

Posture & Exercise Perscription

You are what you do repeatedly. Posture and meaningful exercise are a key ingredient to almost all physiotherapy sessions. Our goal is to help you learn why, how and what you could do better moving forward.

For more information on posture, check out the videos on WhyThingsHurt.com.

Post Surgical Rehabilitation

Our physiotherapists are trained and experienced to help you get moving and stronger after major joint replacements, reconstructions, abdominal surgeries and pelvic procedures. Physiotherapy is very important after surgery to help you get back on your feet and get the most out of your body. The doctor surgically repairing your body is only the first step to recovery, your physiotherapist can take you the rest of the way.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Dizziness and poor balance are common problems with a variety of causes. We have specially trained physiotherapists to assess and treat your dizziness. Sometimes it can be an inner ear problem such as BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), or the problem can be from your upper neck, head, hips or feet. Our therapists will assess you and direct you down the right path that is specific to your issue.

Envision physiotherapists Maggie Lang and Suzanne Cali have specialized training in vestibular physiotherapy.

Concussion Management

Head injuries can flip your world upside down and become increasingly frustrating due to the unknown timelines of both physical and cognitive symptoms. We have physiotherapists specially trained to guide you through the journey of restoring normalcy following a mild brain injury. A progressive and measured approach to rehabilitation after a concussion can make the process less stressful as you regain your functional abilities.  We've also developed a Sport Concussion Baseline Testing program for those entering into contact sports.

Sports Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists each have their own sporting backgrounds and areas of expertise, and are all here to help keep you moving and competing in the sports you love. We have therapists with passions for running, biking, skiing, soccer, martial arts, golf, tennis, dance and more.

We have physios that have worked with National Teams and travelled to the Olympics.  Our therapists have worked with athletes from the local level, up to National level (including Snowboard and Alpine Canada). We have physios who teach on-field First Responder for Sport to Physiotherapists from across the country.  Our team is here for pain, prevention and performance needs.

Most Envision physiotherapists have a focus on sports, and both Ian Pirie and Harry Toor have additional training and are certified as Sports Physiotherapists.

Physiotherapy - Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is the practice of our physiotherapists using a ‘hands-on’ approach to assessing and treating you. Our physios have all taken post-graduate training to learn specific skills to mobilize, manipulate and release dysfunctional joints, muscles, fascia and membranes in your body. At Envision, we value the skill of the human hand over passive electrical modalities.

Physiotherapy - Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation is a specialized form of manual therapy that requires an extensive knowledge of anatomy and the role your organs can play in your alignment, tension and pain. It is a gentle, hands-on form of osteopathic manual therapy that releases fascial tension around organs and membranes in your body to improve blood flow and proper movement.

Judy Russell, Brent Stevenson and Davin MacKenzie have specialized training in visceral manipulation.  To learn more about Visceral Manipulation click here

Physiotherapy - IMS Dry Needling

IMS dry needling (intramuscular stimulation) is a specialized technique used by physiotherapists with post graduate training in the use of acupuncture needles to release taut bands of muscles in your body. It was developed by a local physician named Dr Chan Gunn and can be incredibly effective for treating chronic pain and tightness in your body. Envision has numerous physiotherapists trained to use dry needling as an integrated tool in your assessment and treatment.

Go to our IMS page, or click here to lean more about IMS Dry Needling.

Physiotherapy - Bike Fitting

Making sure your bike is set up perfectly for your body is a key piece of injury prevention for both road cyclists and mountain bikers. We have physiotherapists that can get to know your body first then set you up on a bike trainer and assess what needs to change with you and what can be changed about your bike. Setting up your bike properly is just as important as setting up your desk at work in order to prevent recurrent pains and injury.
