We are excited to announce that Marcy Dayan and her team of pelvic health physiotherapists will be joining the Envision Physiotherapy group at their False Creek location starting March 1st, 2020. The amalgamation will provide clients with more timely access to six pelvic floor physiotherapists working in conjunction with clinical Pilates instructors, personal trainers, massage therapists, physicians, dietitians and counsellors all under the same umbrella.
Pelvic health physiotherapists have specialized training to assess and treat clients with a variety of sensitive issues such as incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, and perinatal back and groin pain. Women often need help and guidance to manage their symptoms during or after pregnancy, while men often need rehabilitation of their pelvic floor after prostate procedures such as TURPS or a prostatectomy. There is also an evidence-based indication for prescribing pelvic floor exercises for men struggling with erectile dysfunction. Pelvic floor physiotherapists have the skills to address these concerns to help clients reduce pelvic pain and improve their overall function.
Marcy Dayan has been a leader in championing the importance of pelvic floor rehabilitation and continues to teach and mentor physiotherapists, physicians and midwives. Dayan Physiotherapy is a product of Marcy’s hard work and dedication to improving access to pelvic health services for clients in need. The move of her team to Envision Physiotherapy will provide an integrated and multidisciplinary healthcare experience for clients while allowing Marcy to focus on clinical mentorship, teaching and clinical care.
Marcy and her associates approach pelvic floor dysfunction within a biopsychosocial model. They address changes in pelvic floor function with thorough education on the reasons for the changes, teach people awareness and skill in pelvic floor function, and how to integrate this skill into their daily lives to address their concerns. EMG biofeedback and imaging ultrasound are often used and are helpful tools for both patient education and learning, as well as for physiotherapist assessment and treatment. All pelvic health conditions, including pain conditions, are treated within a comprehensive approach addressing the pelvic floor component as well as addressing other aspects of life affected by the concern. Challenges commonly include changes in sexual function, employment, exercise, leisure and social situations to name a few.
Trish Gipson has provided pelvic health physiotherapy at Envision for many years. Trish’s style of pelvic health physiotherapy is based on Diane Lee’s Integrated Systems Model (ISM) approach by addressing the connections of pelvic floor dysfunction to other parts of the body; where internal assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor is considered to be only one piece of the puzzle. Trish draws from her manual therapy background, acupuncture training and keen interest in progressive exercise training to help transition new mothers back to function and fitness.
Envision Physiotherapy now boasts sixteen physiotherapists across our two locations with a variety of specialized training including pelvic health, IMS dry needling, concussion management, manual therapy, visceral manipulation, scoliosis physio, vestibular rehabilitation, bike fits and exercise prescription.
